Why Beastie Boys?

After conducting my survey I asked several people why they made their choice to be Sabotage by the Beastie Boys.

Jazz: I liked the song more than the others, it's among the most famous of all rock songs.
Michael: I love the ITV4 advert with this on. Its a great song symbolising anarchy and rebellion.
Leanne: The song is catchy and you can easily use the lyrics to envision the song.

Song Short List Survey

I asked my peers to listen to the four songs chosen for my short list and asked them to choose the one that they would like me to make a video for:

Def Leppard: 3

Five Finger Death Punch: 0

Beastie Boys: 9

The Who: 2

Queen: 3

With this in mind I shall therefore conduct my video based on Beastie Boys: Sabotage.

Band Poster Analysis: Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Steel Panther

Def Leppard and Motley Crue

A simple idea for a band poster since it doesn't have any edges but it does have an excellent idea that Motley Crue being american and Def Leppard being english the mixture of two flags crossed over. Again the use of the support bands fonts appears to be consistent and works to great effect, the main advantage of this style of poster is that it can resized aslong as it is a vector image.

Song Choice:Short List

I have selected a short list of five brilliant songs which I will ask my peers to listen to and choose a song which they would like a video being conducted for.

1: Def Leppard:  Pour Some Sugar On Me: 4:52
A brilliant song which has a great beat and would be easy to intimidate for the montage however due to song being about a guy asking a girl to go easy on him so would be difficult to choose a suitable subject matter. I also will have to find a set of drums which could be difficult since I don't know any drummers and this song has rather a heavy drum beat it would be foolish not to use it.

2:Five Finger Death Punch: Bad Company: 4:23
A song with no video is a good idea since it allows me to be original and make my own take on the video. This allows me to be creative, however the subject matter similar to Def Leppard's is a interesting subject matter being about soldier's of war being rather gritty and a sensitive matter to deal with.

3:Beastie Boys: Sabotage: 2:58
A classic song, Ive prevented myself from watching the video since it would give me a idea that I would try and stick to, hampering originality. The song promotes many numerous themes such as bullying, violence and will be a challenge to portray. Highly noted as a favourite.

4:The Who: Baba O'Riley: 5:00
A song with a story the video is simply a band performing on stage so would be easy to create a brand new video, the subject matter is acceptable aswell since it's about a changing world. The only problem could come in the songs length being 5:00 in length I would need a lot of footage which would be harder to achieve.

5: Queen: Bohemian Rhapsody: 5:58
Perhaps the most iconic of all rock videos, however it comes with rather a long run time and the fact that if I did recreate the video I would be basing it on the original so it would be obviously copying which is not good since I cant really show originality off which is one of the things that I wish to do in the video.

Video Analysis Summery

From videos relating to my genre which is rock and metal I have learnt that:

1: All good videos have a story, the Dragonforce video with no story is boring to watch while good videos like ZZ Top and Volbeat's video are excellent if Michael Jackson's Thriller video had not had a story would it have been as succesful as it has been?

2: All Rock videos that I have covered (except for Rockstar by Nickelback) have cuts from the story to the band members playing their instruments if anything to show of the members of the band and give them more screen time and to show the audience who the band actually is.

3: In all of the Rock videos except for ZZ Top and maybe Spinal Tap have a relaxed dress code of jeans and a t shirt usually of fellow rock band of a sleaveless shirt.
